Third, it is not true that all hcg is created equally. Homeopathic hcg drops are definitely NOT the same as prescription hcg. While there are some legitimate prescription strength tablets being compounded by pharmacies, hcg liquid drops are NEVER prescription strength.

Furthermore, the majority of hcg sold online directly to the public is either not true prescription strength or it is being obtained and sold illegally. There are also claims that there is special hcg weight loss for women and special hcg weight loss for men. Not true. Again, legitimate hcg weight loss clinics do exist. Prescription hcg is a medication and as such should always be prescribed by a qualified professional. Lastly, most websites claim that hcg is a permanent reset for metabolism. This is also false. Any method one chooses to utilize to lose weight, whether it be diet or exercise or lap band surgery or gastric bypass surgery, once the weight is off long term strategies must be implemented to keep the weight off and stay healthy. Therefore, a tremendous failing of nearly all hcg weight loss available online is the lack of long term support and an effective maintenance program.

Contrave – FDA Panel Approved diet pill

Contrave is an experimental medication used to help obese people lose weight. It was recently voted on by the FDA group of doctors to determine its suitability for public use and the vote was in favor of approving it 13-7. What does this now mean, is it available immediately after? Unfortunately for some the answer is no, but it is a step in the right direction of having this medication approved. What this now means is that at the end of January 2011 the FDA will strongly take into account their panel’s vote and make an ultimate choice. In most cases the FDA will take the advice of its panel members and copy their decision but occasionally the FDA will reverse the decision of its panel.

However it is looking very good for the approval of a new diet medication in more than a decade. This all comes right after the FDA decided to remove an existing diet medication called sibutramine from the market with concerns over side effects. One note of caution I find interesting is that apparently Contrave if approved will have to undergo post approval testing on cardiovascular issues. This in my mind seems like it should be done pre approval given the seemingly side effect ridden problems with diet medications.

Contrave is a mixture of two drugs, one is bupropion the other naltrexone. Bupropion is an anti-depressant and helps with smoking addiction while naltrexone is used for addition to drugs and alcohol. Together this pairing of them in specific amounts creates a weight loss formula that is turning heads everywhere. The main side effects reported during clinical testing include headaches, nausea and constipation. These seem to be on a level that either do not affect many or that are considered tolerable for the FDA panel to overlook them in their recent vote.

Given the high probability that Contrave is approved and put on the market, it will still be a few months before it is commercially available. When it is, you will need to visit a doctor and get a prescription for such a treatment. This medication will in most cases only be administered to those in actual need of such a medication. This will not be a quick pick up of the pharmacy shelf for anyone to use.
